Minnesota Twins | Interview with Gemela Amor by Coco&&Breezy

The fashion world has two new it girls. Coco and Breezy the creators of the super popular and rapidly growing couture sunglass line Gemela Amor, have taken Manhattan. The two fashion impresarios moved from the twin city Minneapolis, Minnesota, a place destitute of style and void of fashion, to New York City the literal and figurative fashion Mecca in hopes of changing the way we see fashion. ThThese hard-edged spectacles bare an industrial theme that brings individuals to the crossroads where punk rock and high fashion meet leaving the faint of heart facing a mountain so steep Rihanna would tremble at the thought of climbing it.  We know that last line was full of drama, but if you’ve seen these shades you’d know why!  Celebs like Amber Rose, Kelly Osbourne and Vanessa Simmons have been seen sporting their lenses around town.  We sat down with the budding designers Coco & Breezy to discuss where they are now and where they see them selves going.

So, we know there are two of you and you are twins, but surely you don’t agree on everything when it comes to fashion, or do you? And when you disagree how do come to an agreement?

Well, we most likely agree on almost everything, which is super crazy.Like, we have a crazy twin connection, HAHA!!! But, when we disagree, ME COCO, I always GET MY WAY! HAHAHAHHAA

It must be hard without a deciding vote…LOL. We know that you guy by the name of Coco and Breezy, what are your real names?

Well, when we get that question, we always say….. Our real names are what are parents call us which is COCO AND BREEZY but, our Government names are………………. something we aren’t sharing with the world.

Where did you get the name Gemela Amor from?

Well, Gemela Amor is of course Spanish. Gemela means “twin” and Amor means “love”, when we were thinking of a name, we 1st thought of twin love, but we had to change it up a little. and Since we are half Puerto Rican, we thought it would be cool to use Spanish

Follow up question. Who is Spanish your mother or father?

Our mother is full Spanish. WE SPEAK SPAN-GLISH HAHAHA

That’s tight. How long was it from the time that you started your sunglass line was it until the first celeb was spotted in a pair of your shades?

We started our eyewear line in April… but we didn’t get super serious with it, until about June. Ashanti was our 1st celeb spotted rocking her GEMELA AMOR EYEWEAR by COCO && BREEZY in September at the VH1 HIP HOP HONORS red carpet

Oh okay cool. We know that your shades were merely an accessory to your actual clothing line in the beginning and they ended up “stealing the show”, but do you still work on designing apparel and if so when do you plan on introducing it?

Yes, we do still design apparel, but only for ourselves to wear, but we eventually want to throw clothing into the collection. We just want to wait, until we have made a known house hold name out there, because in the fashion industry, everyone is doing clothing, and people wear names that they only know. So we got to knock out creative accessories then in about a year add the apparel.

That makes sense. Most artist have to sacrifice a lot to get where they are going, what have you guys had to sacrifice to get where you are now and to be where you want to be?

Well, we had to sacrifice our youth life. Because we do all of this on our own, and we started off young. We didn’t go to any of our school dances, or prom, anything like that. We have always been about business. Where we are now in life, is good for our young age, but we want ALOT more. We set very high goals.

You said you sacrificed your youth, what age exactly was that about? What age did you start designing and deciding this is what you wanted to do for the rest of your lives?

We actually been designing for a while, but we never thought about starting our own line, until last April. When we were about 13-17 we used to backup dance and do choreography and travel a lot. So we actually just recently decided that we wanted to be serious designers, last spring, we found that designing was our passion, because we have always been into fashion. So why not do something that you love, and enjoy as your career.

Being artist and designers yourself what others designers and artist do you take inspiration from and who are some of your favorites?

Um………………. McQueen recent collection was OFFFFF THEEE CHAIN!!! hahahha
We actually try not to look at other designers that much, so i an come up with new and improved designs.

Obviously you guys don’t go anywhere without your shades, but what other accessory can’t you leave home without?

My LIP STICK!!! That is an accessory; I don’t wear it to look pretty. Its part of the outfit.
Red was our color, but now its, Red mixed with Black!! Makes a greattt color

Knowing that fashion changes, how will Gemela Amor be divergent as it changes?

We will not just be doing accessories but we will soon start clothing in the next couple collections. We will always be couple steps ahead and never afraid to step out the box.

Where do you guys see yourselves in five years?

In 5 years, I can see Coco&&Breezy not just being designers, but will be doing TV appearance, movies, and as designers, our line will be more established. We will be young entrepreneurs.

Any last words?

We not going to ever get to comfortable with what the “top” is.. We are going to work harder and harder everyday!! We want to be an inspiration to younger people to show it is possible.
